The James
Cohan Gallery opened in September 1999 with an inaugural exhibition
of the early photopieces by Gilbert & George. The gallery focuses on international, contemporary art featuring the work of established and emerging artists. Artists represented by the gallery include; the Estate of Robert Smithson; video artist, Bill Viola; British painter, Richard Patterson; British sculptor, Ron Mueck; American painter, Fred Tomaselli and Japanese sculptor, Yukinori Yanagi. Additionally, the gallery works with and has inventory by artists; Joseph Beuys, Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Richard Long, Gerhard Richter, Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol, among others. For
